Provincial School Lunch Program Summit Record Summary, June 10 2015

At our Annual General Meeting of April 11, 2015, the PEI Home and School Federation passed a resolution (see attached) calling for the establishment of the fully-funded provincial lunch program for all PEI students.

To move this project forward, we invited those who are working in education, food and agriculture to talk, in high-level general terms, about how a program might work.  In other words, to figure out what it might take to serve a free lunch to 18,000 students in schools from one end of the Island to the other.

The Culinary Institute of Canada agreed to host this meeting at their facility in Charlottetown on Tuesday, June 10, 2015, 9:30 – 12 noon.

The meeting focused on identifying what it would actually take to implement such a program (as opposed to identifying all the reasons that it might be impossible) and, as such, we’ve invited Gerry Hopkirk to facilitate the session, with instructions to keep us all focused on the practical.
