2016 School Crossing Guard of the Year

For the first time, the Prince Edward Island Home and School Federation presented a School Crossing Guard of the Year Award.  The inaugural award recipient, Shelby McInnis, works at Souris Regional School.  A special celebration was held on Monday, May 30th during Parachute Safe Kids Week which is being celebrated acrosss Canada, May 30 – June 5.

Many letters and cards of support were written with love and filled with stories and drawings about a dedicated and caring person who is exceptional in his daily caretaking of students and other community members who use a very busy crosswalk at Souris School.  Shelby takes his job very seriously!  He is always smiling and cheerful while ushering people across “his” crosswalk.  He takes time to talk with students, especially about the Montreal Canadiens, and makes sure they start their day with a smile.
