Get Ready to say thanks. Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week set for Feb. 10-14

The federation will continue to do its’ work of bringing people together around the common vision of an excellent education system, with the education and wellbeing of each Island child at the center. At the local level, we work to strengthen local home and school associations and support their work in their schools and communities.

Our teachers and staff do an amazing job every day; we are very appreciative of all they do for children and youth. Celebrate Teachers/Staff Appreciation Week, February 10 – 14, 2020.  Home and Schools are reminded to say thank you to school staff during this week of recognition. Form a committee to discuss a plan to show appreciation.

The federation is available to provide leadership training, facilitate meetings, and to help bring people together around common goals and visions. Home and Schools may request a print copy of the handbook “How to run an effective meeting” or access it online. There are tips on how to record minutes, make a motion, write a resolution, prepare a budget, finance statement, and more. Samples are included in the handbook. It’s a great resource for volunteer organizations.

The annual Book of Reports is being compiled for circulation at the Annual Meeting April 18. Presidents are asked to submit your Home and School Association’s 2020 Annual Report to the Federation office by February 28th.

Home and School awards are about recognizing the significant contributions that volunteers make to help people in their school communities. Associations are asked to consider nominating a Home and School member for this year’s Volunteer of the Year and Life Member Awards. The submission deadline is:  March 13, 2020.  Find criteria /nomination form online.

The P.E.I. Home and School Federation’s 67th Annual Meeting & Convention will be held on Saturday, April 18. All Home and Schools are invited to attend with each association asked to designate five attendees as your school’s voting delegates. You are encouraged to include teachers, administrators and staff as delegates. The meeting and convention is a great way to discuss solutions to various concerns raised within the education system. Registration information will be circulated in February.

P.E.I. Home and School Federation continues to advocate for matters of concern raised by our membership such as school food and elected school board trustees. Our board continues to work with the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning and the Public Schools Branch on these and other initiatives.
