Premier MacLauchlan Cooks with Chef Tony Geraci

This past Sunday, October 23, Premier Wade MacLauchlan graciously hosted Chef Tony Geraci to cook with him and his partner Duncan McIntosh at The Mill in New Glasgow.

The meal they cooked – from a variety of local, healthy ingredients – was shared by a small group of home and school volunteers around a table where local, healthy school food was the topic of the day.

Chef Geraci is on Prince Edward Island this week at the invitation of the PEI Home and School Federation to shine light on our project to introduce a universal school lunch program to the Island's schools; he has done this in other jurisdictions, and is here to share his insights and experiences with Islanders.

The conversation was vigourous and wide-ranging, and covered everything from the economic benefits of serving Island products in schools to the learning benefits of having well-fed students ready to learn when they arrive at the classroom door.

Chef Geraci will be the keynote speak at the Federation's Semi-Annual Meeting at Gulf Shore Consolidated in North Rustico on October 25, 2016.
